Integrating Archival Contents and Technologies into Educational, Academic, Industrial, and Social Development
The goal of the Cultural, Academic, Socio-Economic, and Educational Promotions and Applications Project is to integrate archival contents and technologies into educational, academic, industrial, and social development. The project makes the rich and diverse archival contents generally available to people in various cultural, educational, academic, and industrial fields. It is hoped that a society with a sound digital foundation can help Taiwan secure a better and more competitive position in the world. The following methods have been adopted to integrate the contents of digital archives in various fields.
Strengthening channels for public access to digital archives and speeding up the accumulation and sharing of cultural and academic resources
In the last six years, the NDAP has accumulated abundant resources and materials. To increase the dissemination of the digital contents, the program has helped develop software and hardware to facilitate access to and the use of the digital archives. It has also helped improve the way the public can browse the digital contents.
Promoting digital archives as public assets and adding value to the applications
To improve the dissemination and sharing of public assets, the NDAP is addressing the need for interaction and coordination between the public, academia, and archive organizations. Efforts are being made to integrate various resources in order to create added value in applications of the archives. In addition, a licensing agreement has been concluded to facilitate international exchanges and licensing transactions. The NDAP attended the Licensing 2007 International Expo in New York under the theme “Creative Taiwan,” with a view to enhancing Taiwan’s image and international position. It is hoped that, through licensing agreements, Taiwan’s digital cultural assets can be used to create unique products.
Expanding communication channels for digitization of public assets and increasing the utilization of the digital archives
To ensure that people from different communities can use the digital archives effectively, it is necessary to establish communication channels and provide tailor-made training courses to improve the application of digitized cultural assets. It is also important to increase the capability of teachers at all levels to use the digital archives and strengthen their interest in promoting digitalization.
Improving the environment for the use of digital archives and offering incentives to promote innovation and sharing
To further improve the digital environment for users, surveys have been conducted to determine the needs of different communities, such as archive institutes, value-added application companies, educational and academic organizations, and the public, with regard to the contents of the digital archives. The sharing and exchange of resources through public licensing is being promoted so that incentives will be strong enough to generate further innovation and sharing.
