Outcomes
The outcomes of NDAP will
include a collection of databases called the “Taiwan Digital Archives
(TDA).” In addition to its predecessors, NDAP has thus far contributed
some digitized collections into the TDA, such as: language corpora for
various times and places in history, historical maps of China and Taiwan,
collections of indigenous cultures in Taiwan, contemporary historical
archives of China and Taiwan (1860-1970), fauna and flora of Taiwan (including
species of fish, shell fish and plants, species of insects, butterflies
and birds), minerals, archaeological and fossil collections, collections
of stone and bronze rubbings, collections of jade, porcelain, bronze,
ancient calligraphy and painting, images of rare books, selected gazetteer
documents, and early periodicals and newspapers published in Taiwan.
The digital resources in the
TDA are divided into three levels: the archive level, the open-market
level and the public information system level. The outcome of the archive
level is for preservation purposes and is accessible only on a case-by-case
basis. The outcome of the open-market level will be released (for a fee)
for commercial use, from which value-added digital contents can be created,
and for which digital services can be provided. The outcome of the public
information system level is for educational purposes and will be free
of charge for public consumption. Figure-1 illustrates a scenario of what
we envision as the derived benefits of the TDA.
